Venture Construction Group of Florida Staff and Crews Swiftly Assess Extensive Property Damage After El Niño Storms Devastate Central and South Florida

Leading construction and storm damage restoration company provides emergency services and repairs

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) provides prompt emergency services, free inspections, and repairs after devastating El Niño storms, tornadoes and high winds ripped through central and south Florida.

Forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center predicted extreme winter weather in Florida last fall due to this year’s El Niño, among the strongest on record.

“Floridians generally don’t perceive the threat of tornadoes as much as other parts of the country,” said David Zierden, Florida Climate Center State Climatologist. “But the whole peninsula has an enhanced risk of tornadoes during strong El Niño years.”

The past week the southern and central portion of Florida has been hit with severe rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and tornadoes. Several tornadoes touched down this past weekend throughout central and south Florida leading to extensive property damage in Cape Coral, Siesta Key, Fort Myers, Naples, Hobe Sound, Lee County, Manatee County, Sarasota County, Collier County, Martin County, and Palm Beach County.

According to the National Weather Service, Cape Coral in Manatee County was ravaged by an EF-2 tornado with wind speeds between 111 to 135 mph, ripping a 300-foot-wide swath of destruction along a nine-mile stretch. A second EF-2 tornado touched down in Siesta Key in Sarasota County with winds estimated to have reached 70 mph, causing damage to several properties, structures, and trees. In Hobe Sound in Martin County, an EF-1 tornado with wind speeds ranging from 86 mph -110 mph devastated the area on Sunday, causing severe damage to roofs and cars while uprooting several large trees.

The National Weather Service confirmed wind damage similar to an EF-1 tornado in Collier County. Cape Coral and South Fort Myers in Lee County received extensive water and wind damage on Jan. 11 to properties after an EF-2 tornado devastated the area, damaging hundreds of structures during its 3.4-mile trek. Several thunderstorms and windstorms ravaged Naples in Collier County. According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a 30-mile stretch of Collier County was hit Jan. 17 by severe thunderstorm winds that reached speeds of the equivalent of an EF-1 tornado. According to The Weather Channel, wind gusts topped 80 mph in the Naples area and had enough force to shift planes around at the Naples airport.

“Stronger and longer track tornadoes are more frequent during El Niño,” said David Zierden, Florida’s state climatologist, Florida Climate Center. “The frequency of EF-1 tornadoes or greater is more than twice as likely during a strong El Niño.”

As a nationally recognized industry leader in storm damage repairs and restoration work, Venture Construction Group of Florida provides free property inspections, emergency roof services and tarping, and skilled assessments and repairs to property owners throughout the state.
