Local Licensed General Contractor Donates Funds to Provide Children with Summer Enrichment Activities
STUART, Fla. — In response to the community need for youth sponsorships to summer camp, Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) and CEO Stephen Shanton and family donate funds to help children attend summer camp at the YMCA Treasure Coast. VCGFL sponsored 100 weeks and the Shanton family sponsored 50 weeks of summer camp. Summer camp is open to youth from kindergarten to 8th grade. The mission of the YMCA is to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Weekly tuition ranges from $65-$150 and is determined by membership, location and services offered. Donations go directly to subsidize these costs for families in need.
“As a father to four amazing kids, I know how important it is for our children to have an outlet, especially now after being cooped up due to COVID. Many parents have been laid off and may not be able to afford this due to the pandemic. These have been stressful times for many. It’s time for our children to have the opportunity to make some fun summer memories. We’re committed to giving back to the community and are proud to support the amazing activities at the YMCA Treasure Coast!” says Stephen Shanton, CEO and president, Venture Construction Group of Florida.
The YMCA offers summer camp at five locations: Indiantown, Okeechobee, two in Port St. Lucie and the Stuart main campus. Camp Teddy Bear is geared for youth entering kindergarten. Camp Exploration is for youth entering 1st-6th grade. Camp Teen Exploration is for youth entering 7th-8th grade. Camps feature age-appropriate arts & crafts, sports, indoor & outdoor games, STEAM and literacy activities, swimming, and educational classes.
“Venture Construction Group of Florida has been a strong partner of the Y for over 5 years. It started after a major roof replacement project over the entire Stuart campus. Since then, they donated a pavilion roof and sponsored several key events for us. We are thankful for their support and our community is stronger thanks to the generosity of business owners like Steve Shanton. We are continually grateful for Venture’s support of our Y in many ways,” says Elisha Steocklin, executive branch director, YMCA of the Treasure Coast.
VCGFL provided massive reroofing and restoration services at the YMCA Stuart location when the property endured severe hail damage in 2015. During the project, staff and crews held a “Minion” day and dressed in costume for the younger children to help minimize nervousness caused by the construction sounds. The children were tickled to know that “Minions” were helping to put a new roof on their preschool! VCGFL recently provided restoration services to the YMCA Indiantown location after the nonprofit endured severe storm damage.
Through donations from local businesses, residents and members, the YMCA provides over $200,000 a year in scholarships to provide children and families access to programs and services, regardless of their economic circumstances. The funds are allocated to preschool and child care programs, summer camp, swimming lessons, youth sports and more. The YMCA Community Support Program follows a sliding fee scale. All YMCA members receive the same membership benefits, regardless of whether or not they received Community Support Funding. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis according to financial need. Childcare scholarships are available to youth whose parents work at least 20 hours per week, or attend school full-time.
Beginning on June 22, the Y started reopening their programs including the fitness center, child care center, group exercise classes, sports, gym, and swimming. The YMCA Treasure Coast launched in 1977 as the YMCA of Martin County, and later merged with the YMCA of St. Lucie County in July, 2000 to expand to serve four counties: Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee.
VCGFL is committed to giving back to numerous charitable and community programs throughout the year. As a local leader in construction, restoration, roofing and storm damage repairs, VCGFL has earned numerous accolades and awards for project excellence, safety, best practices, and design.
