General Contractor Supports 2020 Fundraiser for Hometown Heroes
BOCA RATON, Fla. — A major advocate for ALS research and finding a cure, Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) sponsored the Walk Your Way virtual event hosted by the ALS Association Florida Chapter. The fundraiser was held on August 1 and featured virtual opening and closing ceremonies which were broadcast live across the state. Participants throughout the state chose where to walk and the length of the walk, while practicing social distancing due to COVID-19. The 2020 theme, Hometown Heroes, celebrates heroes battling ALS; their caregivers; local emergency responders; medical personnel; grocery clerks; farmers, and essential personnel. VCGFL exhibited virtually in an online booth, along with other sponsors, offering promotional specials, tips, live Q&A, and expertise.
“To prioritize the safety of all involved, we gave every participant the tools to host their own ‘ALS Walk Your Way’ experience that fit their needs, health directives, and abilities,” said Cal Brooks, vice president of development, ALS Association Florida Chapter. “We created a custom, virtual portal for sponsors to exhibit and participate just as they would with a table at a live event. We’re so appreciative of the ongoing generosity and support of businesses like Venture Construction Group of Florida.”
The Walk Your Way virtual event replaced seven previously scheduled Walk to Defeat ALS® events throughout Florida. The pre-COVID events sponsored by VCGFL included the Palm Beach Walk to Defeat ALS; the Central Florida Walk to Defeat ALS in Orlando; the Broward Walk to Defeat ALS in Davie; the Jacksonville Walk to Defeat ALS; the Southwest Walk to Defeat ALS; the Sarasota Walk to Defeat ALS; and the Greater Tampa Bay Walk to Defeat ALS.
“We’re impressed that the ALS Association Florida Chapter was able to modify these walks and adapt so everyone could still participate in the COVID environment. What a testament to their strength as an organization dedicated to defeating ALS. We’re honored to sponsor these events and the amazing work the ALS Association is doing to find a cure,” said Stephen Shanton, president and CEO of Venture Construction Group of Florida, founder of the Shanton ALS Foundation.
VCGFL will be sponsoring and exhibiting at the upcoming ALS Association Florida Chapter Hope and Health Symposium on Aug. 29 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. The virtual event includes keynote speakers, informative demonstrations and sessions for people living with ALS, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and supporters of the ALS community, as well as a vendor fair and learning lab.
