Venture Construction Group of Florida Sponsors Annual ALS Florida Chapter Hope & Health Symposium

Venture Construction Group of Florida Sponsors Sarasota Walk to Defeat ALS®

Licensed General Contractor Leads the Way in ALS Research Advocacy

BOCA RATON, Fla. — To support those affected by ALS, Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) sponsored the Hope and Health Symposium held on Aug. 29 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. The virtual event featured keynote speakers, learning lab, vendor fair, and educational sessions for people living with ALS including caregivers, healthcare professionals, and supporters of the ALS community. VCGFL exhibited virtually in an online booth and shared tips and education, along with other community vendors. The event included expert panel, speakers, and live Q&A sessions.

Keynote speaker, Richard Bedlack, MD, PhD, MS, professor of neurology at Duke University, director of the ALS Certified Center of Excellence at Duke Health, and founder of ALSUntangled, provided a presentation on ALS research, “Is the Key to ALS Being Flushed Down Our Toilets?” The event also featured presentations from expert medical directors in ALS Certified Centers of Excellence and Affiliated Clinics across Florida from the Mayo Clinic, UF Health Jacksonville, Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale, University of Miami Health System, USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, Orlando Health, Lee Health, and the University of Florida Movement Disorders Center. Paul Mehta, MD from the CDC National ALS Registry, discussed the importance of filling out the surveys in order for researchers and scientists to learn the causes of ALS and find a cure.

“We are so grateful for the medical experts, hospitals, universities and research centers dedicated to finding a cure for ALS. They never give up, just like those afflicted with ALS. I went through this with my father. He was a fighter and a fierce advocate for remaining positive. We are committed to supporting the fight against ALS,” said Stephen Shanton, president and CEO of Venture Construction Group of Florida, founder of the Shanton ALS Foundation.

Previously held in Orlando, the Hope & Health Symposium was held virtually for the first time due to COVID-19 health and safety precautions. As part of their corporate giving campaign dedicated to ALS research, VCGFL also sponsored the statewide Walk Your Way virtual event held on Aug. 1.

The virtual walk replaced seven previously scheduled Walk to Defeat ALS® events throughout Florida including the Palm Beach Walk to Defeat ALS; the Central Florida Walk to Defeat ALS in Orlando; the Broward Walk to Defeat ALS in Davie; the Jacksonville Walk to Defeat ALS; the Southwest Walk to Defeat ALS; the Sarasota Walk to Defeat ALS; and the Greater Tampa Bay Walk to Defeat ALS.
