Leading Florida Restoration Company Receives S.T.A.R. Award in Sustainability

Venture Construction Group of Florida Wins FRSA S.T.A.R. Award in Sustainability and Community Service

Venture Construction Group of Florida wins prestigious FRSA Spotlight Trophy for the Advancement of Roofing Award

ORLANDO, Fla. — Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) wins Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association, Inc. (FRSA) Spotlight Trophy for the Advancement of Roofing S.T.A.R. Award in Sustainability. Each year, an FRSA panel evaluates entries for inclusion and outstanding performance in multiple categories including:  Low Slope, Steep Slope, Specialty Metal Fabrication and Installation, Sustainable, Community Service Project/Charity Roof, Unique/Miscellaneous. Contractor companies and their partners are recognized for unique projects completed in the state of Florida during the preceding year. Judging criteria is inclusive of but not limited to: aesthetics, size, completion time, special circumstances, unique project design, complexity of project, workmanship, teamwork, testimonials, creative problem solving.

“We are honored to be recognized by the FRSA S.T.A.R. Awards for our commitment to Sustainability. We integrate education and solutions throughout all of our construction and restoration projects. It is important for property owners to understand that they have options, what they are, and what they mean, including roof life, cost-efficiencies, energy savings. It’s our duty to educate the property owner on roof maintenance, repair options, insurance policies, and best practices in sustainability. With our Florida weather, this is especially important,” says Stephen Shanton, president of Venture Construction Group of Florida.

VCGFL won the prestigious award in the Sustainable category for a commercial build at the YMCA of the Treasure Coast in Stuart. This award includes projects with sustainable elements such as Green/Vegetative/Energy Efficient, LEED, Solar/Photovoltaic, cool granule, reflective coating technology, micro turbine inclusive facilities, radiant barrier, highly insulated with CI system, insulation system inclusive of RB technology, roof system that brings a substandard building up to the new energy code.

Last year, VCGFL provided massive storm damage restoration, roof repair, roof replacement, hail, water and wind damage repairs at the YMCA of the Treasure Coast’s main and SportsWorld branches in Stuart after devastating hail and wind caused severe roof damage. The Y’s main branch, a 63,427 square feet location, had suffered the most damage, with the 40-year-old roof needing a complete tear-off and replacement. At the SportsWorld facility, approximately 43,800 square feet required significant repairs to fix numerous leaks.

Given the size of the project, the mix of roofing systems involved and that the existing roofing systems were all 30-40 years old, VCGFL started by bringing in a roofing consultant – Blake E. Joyce, PE, LEED AP of Joyce Engineering LLC – and sought supply donations from Mule-Hide Products Co. The Venture team didn’t stop there though. After learning that the Y’s insurance would cover only a fraction of the cost of the work, VCGFL stepped in to fill the gap. VCGFL dedicated a full crew of 20 staff and construction workers, managers and a crew leader to scope, assess and complete the repairs with accuracy and quality workmanship on the four-month long project.

“Our experience with Venture Construction Group of Florida has always been positive. They make sure that their job is done not only with integrity and quality, but they also take time to amuse the children attending our facilities.  We are extremely honored and happy that they came to our aid when we needed it most,” says John M. Lass, president & CEO of YMCA of the Treasure Coast.

VCGFL held a special “Minion Day”, and staff got into character after several children thought the crew were Minions due to the building signage. Getting into the spirit, the crew dressed up as Minions while finishing up the repairs.

The annual FRSA’s S.T.A.R. Awards and Officer Installation Dinner featured a presentation profiling winning industry projects. Attendees included contractors, manufacturers, architects and exhibitors. Awards were presented at the 2017 S.T.A.R. Awards and FRSA Officer Installation Dinner on June 23 at 6:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency in Orlando.
