Prominent Florida construction company recognized by Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association, Inc. for excellence in philanthropy

ORLANDO, Fla. — Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) wins Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association, Inc. (FRSA) S.T.A.R. Award for Community Service.  S.T.A.R.—Spotlight Trophy for the Advancement of Roofing is an annual awards program designed by FRSA to recognize members’ unique and outstanding projects completed in the state of Florida. Awards were presented at the 2017 S.T.A.R. Awards Dinner on June 23 at 6:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency in Orlando. Leading contractor companies were recognized for unique projects completed in the state of Florida in six different categories: Low Slope, Steep Slope, Specialty Metal Fabrication and Installation, Sustainable, Community Service Project/Charity Roof, Unique/Miscellaneous.

The Community Service award entails non-profit roof installation that involved a whole or partial donation (minimum 50% free materials and/or labor). Through the Owens Corning’s national Roof Deployment Project in partnership with Support Our Troops®, VCGFL provided a 2,800 square feet amber shingle roof replacement to a disabled Army veteran in West Palm Beach. The U.S. Army disabled veteran had purchased his first home while deployed in Afghanistan. After enduring an IED explosion and returning back home, the veteran learned that his roof did not pass windstorm mitigation inspection, causing his mortgage and insurance premiums to double. The inspection initially passed when he purchased the home. VCGFL stepped in to get the veteran’s restoration work completed, free of charge.

“Throughout the installation of the roof, the Venture team was very descriptive on every detail of materials and process. This provided me with valuable knowledge needed to correctly assess and remediate problems in the future. The Venture team provided me with a better understanding of the steps needed to file an insurance claim with my insurance provider and potential red flags that I should watch for in future policies,” says Sergeant Sam Horwitz, U.S. Army National Guard.

The team at VCGFL didn’t stop there though. VCGFL President Stephen Shanton and staff purchased age and gender-specific toys and gifts for all children with parents deployed overseas in Delta Company 1-1/24th Infantry through the Florida National Guard Armory Family Readiness Program. Military families throughout south Florida including Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter, Naples, Tampa, West Palm Beach received toys and gifts over the holidays as part of VCGFL’s mission to recognize the sacrifices that military personnel and their families make.

“We are honored to have coordinated this with Venture Construction Group of Florida to help provide support and a sense of comfort to families and children of soldiers who are currently deployed. The emotional support from the local community is so important. It lets these families know that there are many who recognize their sacrifices,” says Sergeant Sam Horwitz, U.S. Army National Guard.

“The kindness and support that Venture Construction Group of Florida has demonstrated to our unit and the military overall is a testament to the patriotic spirit that keeps our country strong. I cannot thank you enough,” says Elvis Nolasco, Commander for the rear detachment of Delta Company 1st Battalion 124th Infantry Regiment, Florida Army National Guard.

The FRSA’s S.T.A.R. Awards and Officer Installation Dinner featured a presentation profiling winning industry projects. Attendees included contractors, manufacturers, architects and exhibitors.
