Philanthropic Restoration Company Supports Domestic Violence Awareness Fundraiser

BOCA RATON, Fla.Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) sponsored the Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, Inc. (AVDA) Heart of a Woman Luncheon. The annual fundraiser was held on Feb. 28 at the Royal Palm Yacht Club in Boca Raton. The event began at 10:30 a.m. and included speakers, networking, lunch and a luxury raffle. VCGFL is a long-term supporter of AVDA’s fundraising events.

“The work that AVDA does is life-changing for so many who are affected by domestic violence. We are honored to support them. It is critical to continuously raise awareness,” says Sandra Lawson, director of operations, Venture Construction Group of Florida, founder of Gemma’s Angels Foundation.

The event keynote speaker, Tarana Burke, is the founder of the ‘me too’ movement. Burke has more than 25 years of dedication to social justice. The #metoo hashtag campaign became a voice for those who have survived sexual assault and harassment. Burke shared her story on how the international movement began, and how it supports survivors.

AVDA’s mission is to promote violence-free relationships by offering alternative choices to end the cycle of domestic abuse and violence. AVDA provides a state-certified domestic violence center, 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency and transitional housing, advocacy and counseling to help victims live violence-free and self-sufficient lives. AVDA’s philosophy – prevention through education, advocacy and intervention is the ultimate goal.

“We were honored to have Tarana speak this year. What a powerful story! The ‘me too.’ movement has helped many who were suffering in silence come out of the woodwork, eliminate their shame and reclaim their voice. We have seen a prominent rise in calls since the movement began. AVDA diligently works throughout the community to help engage and educate. VCGFL’s support helps make our mission possible,” says Jennifer Rey, program services director, Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse.
