Leading restoration company holds comprehensive staff training in advanced communications

STUART, Fla. — Venture Construction Group of Florida (VCGFL) held the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) ProForemen Level 1 training on Dec. 1 from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.  Led by expert NRCA representatives, the certification program equips roofing industry professionals with more effective communication and management skills to streamline operations and jobsite productivity. Topics spanned communication, leadership, productivity, and conflict resolution.

The NRCA ProForeman Level 1 training included interactive assessments on identifying personal communication styles, improving communication skills, and developing conflict resolution tactics. The hands-on class also provided education and insights on identifying the difference between managing and leading, and best practices on increasing job management skills and productivity.

The session was led by Thomas Shanahan, MBA, CAE, vice president of Enterprise Risk Management; and Amy Staska, vice president of NRCA University. Shanahan is a member of the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Construction Sector Council, which sets the U.S. research agenda for construction safety and health. Shanahan previously served on the oversight committee for the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and also served on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Advisory Committee of Construction Safety and Health. Shanahan is active in regulatory actions affecting the roofing industry and works with officials from the Department of Transportation, OSHA and NIOSH. Shanahan holds a master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Staska holds a tenured career in education and training, and leads the NRCA University on a variety of initiatives including the NRCA Safety Manual, Toolbox Talks, Future Executives Institute, and the ProForeman certificate program.

Typically designated for foremen and field managers, all VCGFL staff attended the training session and received the NRCA ProForeman Level 1 certification.

VCGFL has been a member of the NRCA since 2015.
